MESSAGE FROM LIBRARIAN

Welcome to Department of Library and Information Centre!!

It gives me immense pleasure to introduce the Department of Library and Information Centre at RV College of Engineering, which serves as the academic heart of the institution by supporting teaching, learning, and research through its rich and diverse resources. Established with a vision to foster innovation and lifelong learning, the library has evolved into a modern, technology-driven knowledge hub that provides seamless access to both print and digital resources, empowering students and faculty in their pursuit of academic and research excellence.

Our vision is to become the best archive library and a dynamic technical library, known for adopting best practices in knowledge acquisition and sharing,

Our Mission is to automate and digitize all library operations, ensuring seamless, e-enabled access to resources for every reader. To efficiently acquire, organize, retrieve, share, and loan resources in collaboration with other engineering and technology libraries.

Currently, our library document collection has over 1.5 lakh volumes, with 61,000 unique titles covering all engineering subjects.

In addition to our extensive print collection, we provide access to a wide range of e-books, e-journals, and online databases through the VTU Consortium, ensuring that our users remain connected with the latest research and academic developments both on and off campus. Along with these, the institution also subscribes to premium digital resources from Pearson, Wiley, and World Technologies, ASCE, ASME, AIAA offering subject-specific e-books /e- Journals for enhanced learning and reference.

In 2014, We took the initiative to implement the 5S methodology in the RVCE Library, with the goal of enhancing efficiency, cleanliness, and user-friendliness. This Japanese system—Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain was carefully adapted to the library environment to streamline shelving, resource organization, and service areas. As part of this initiative, we introduced a color- coded labelling system to help users and staff easily identify and access different subject categories. This practice continues to this day, supporting a culture of discipline, visibility, and continuous improvement within our library operations.

In line with our mission to provide ease and accessibility, we have fully implemented RFID technology, with 98% of the collection tagged. Readers benefit from self-check-in kiosks and a book drop box system for contactless and efficient service. Our institutional repository, built on DSpace, ensures visibility and long-term preservation of the academic output of our institution.

To encourage academic integrity and assist researchers in preserving originality in their work, we provide Turnitin anti-plagiarism software. All resources are easily searchable and accessible through to our WEBOPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue).

The library actively conducts user orientation programs, digital literacy sessions, and research support services to empower students and faculty in making the most of the resources available. Our serene and student-friendly environment is designed to encourage self-learning, collaboration, and creativity.

At RVCE Library, our mission is clear: to support teaching, learning, and research through inclusive, technology-enabled, and user-centric services. I take immense pride in our journey so far, and we remain committed to continual growth and innovation in library services.

To ensure continuous improvement and data-driven service delivery, we maintain detailed usage statistics for all library resources—both physical and digital. Through our RFID circulation reports, we track borrowing patterns, footfall, and user preferences.

On the digital front, database usage statistics, repository downloads, and e- resource access logs are routinely examined. In addition to supporting academic departments during NBA, NAAC, and NIRF reporting, these insights assist us in making well-informed decisions about the acquisition, renewal, and training requirements of resources.

Our goal is to make the library not only a place of learning but also a well- monitored, responsive, and adaptive support system for the entire campus community.
